Build crash-avoidance skills that save lives and equipment.

Two specialized behind-the-wheel programs for members who drive as an essential function of their job.
When you drive frequently, it’s easy to become casual about it. If you drive for your job, it’s common to think more about the job and less about driving.
You can’t control your surroundings or other roadway users, but you can adjust your actions to defend against crashes. The drills in this, Behind the Wheel program, teach drivers to build crash avoidance maneuvers into their thoughts and their actions, thus saving both lives and equipment.

Collision Avoidance Skills

This 3.5 hour in-car program is informative, performance building and a little heart pounding. You will become a safer, more competent, and confident driver in your company and personal vehicles.

You will be using Proficient Driving Instruction LLC (PDI) vehicles in a closed-course environment. Your instructors for the day are a mix of State Licensed Driving Instructors, HPDE Coaches and Instructors, and On Track Racing Instructors.

This program covers:

Compartment Preparedness
Hands, seating, and mirrors—defensive positioning behind the wheel.
Distance Planning & Braking
Following distances, braking techniques, and safe implementation of Y & U-turns.
Hazard Identification
Safe lane change.
Emergency Steering & Crash Avoidance
In-the-moment evasive maneuvers that build muscle memory for real-world emergencies.

Emergency Driving Techniques

This program is recommended for Law Enforcement professionals looking to enhance their car control safety and performance skills during everyday on-the-job driving and in emergency situations.

As you know from other professional training courses, there are automatic skills developed through motor learning that help you perform intelligently and effectively under stressful situations on the job. This set of drills develops similar skills behind the wheel, for both daily patrol duties or “lights and sirens” emergency response in the vehicle.

This program covers:

Driver Compartment Preparedness
Hands, seating, and mirrors—defensive positioning for daily patrol and emergency response.
Situational Awareness
Civilian hazards, communication distractions, and emergency steering and braking techniques.
Following Distances & Maneuvers
Secure implementation of Y & U-turns and safe distance planning at speed.
Vehicle Dynamics & Tactical Maneuvering
Crash avoidance and tactical car control for lights-and-sirens emergency response.
